The Islamic Jihad Organization (IJO), also known as Islamic Jihad, was a fundamentalist Shia Muslim terrorist group that targeted Americans and foreigners in Lebanon; it was the name given to Hezbollah's operations in Lebanon and the Middle East. Headquartered in Beirut and Baalbek, the IJO was led by Imad Mughniyah, also the leader of Hezbollah. It was active until 1992.

Imad Mughniyah

The organization was founded by Imad Mughniyah in early 1983, and its goals were to expel the Americans from Lebanon. The group was allies with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Hezbollah, and the Amal Movement, while they were enemies with the United States, South Lebanon Army, Syrian Army, and the multinational force in Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War.

In 1983, the year of their foundation, they carried out bombings of a multinational force barracks and a US embassy in Beirut, killing over 350 people. The group was also held responsible for the kidnappings of several foreigners in Lebanon during the 1980s, and their most distant attack was on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992. The group ended its operations that year.
