Ishmael (1972 BC-1835 BC) was the son of Abraham and his wife Sarah's maid Hagar. Sarah planned for Abraham to conceive a child with Hagar, and God warned Hagar that her son would constantly be in conflict with other men. 14 years later, Isaac was born, and Sarah had Ishmael and Hagar banished after catching Ishmael playing with Isaac; she did not want Ishmael to take her son's inheritance. Hagar and Ishmael were freed, and Abraham gave Hagar and Ishmael a supply of bread and water before sending them away. Ishmael became an archer and roamed through the wilderness, and he fathered twelve princes: Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. He also had a daughter named Mahalath. Ishmael died at the age of 137, having been the ancestor of the Arabs.
