
Isaac Williams Patton (4 February 1828-9 February 1890) was the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans from 18 November 1878 to 16 December 1880, succeeding Edward Pilsbury and preceding Joseph A. Shakspeare.
Biography[]
Isaac Williams Patton was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1828, the grandson of Hugh Mercer, the son of John M. Patton, and the brother of Waller T. Patton and George S. Patton Sr.. He served in the US Army during the Mexican-American War before moving to St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana in 1857 to manage a cotton plantation. He served as colonel of the 22nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War, and he was wounded at the Siege of Vicksburg and captured at the Battle of Spanish Fort in Mobile. After the war, he became a successful businessman in New Orleans, becoming sheriff in 1872 and serving as Mayor from 1878 to 1880. He became city treasurer in 1884 and continued to be involved in city politics until his death in 1890.
