
Isaac Thomas (4 November 1784-2 February 1859) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-TN 3) from 4 March 1815 to 3 March 1817, succeeding Thomas K. Harris and preceding Francis Jones.
Biography[]
Isaac Thomas was born in Sevierville, Tennessee on 4 November 1784, and he moved to Winchester in 1800 after his parents' death. He was admitted to the bar in 1808, and he served as a brigadier-general in Louisiana during the War of 1812. Thomas went on to serve in the US House of Representatives from 1815 to 1817, and he moved to Alexandria, Louisiana in 1819 and became one of the largest landowners and slaveholders in the state, introducing the cultivation of sugarcane to central Louisiana. He served in the State Senate from 1823 to 1827, and he moved to California in 1849. He later returned to Alexandria and died the 1859.
