Isaac Norris (mayor)

Isaac Norris (21 July 1671-4 June 1735) was Mayor of Philadelphia from 6 October 1724 to 5 October 1725, succeeding Clement Plumsted and preceding William Hudson. Born in London, he was raised in Jamaica and lost his family to the 1692 Port Royal earthquake, causing him to move to Philadelphia by himself and become one of Pennsylvania's wealthiest proprietors. He rescued William Penn from imprisonment in England in 1706 and came to serve on the Governor's Council, in the Provincial Assembly, as a county judge, and as Mayor.
