Isaac Ginsburg

Isaac "Icky" Ginsburg (1865-) was an American criminal defense lawyer who represented Atlantic County Treasurer Enoch Thompson during his 1921 election fraud indictment.

Biography[]

Isaac Ginsburg was born into a Jewish family, and he became a talented lawyer. In 1921, he was hired by Atlantic County Treasurer and New Jersey political boss Enoch Thompson to represent him in court, and Ginsburg was able to have Thompson and Chalky White released on bail. However, Ginsburg had to struggle with the fact that he knew that Thompson was guilty, and he attempted to use legal reasons (such as medical injury) to have the trial held in Atlantic City, where Thompson could influence the judge. However, Thompson said that his hand injury from a failed assassination attempt was not severe enough, and Ginsburg told Thompson that he would probably serve in prison for five years and be released after two. Thompson decided to fire Ginsburg when he told Thompson that there was no possibility of him being innocent, and he hired Bill Fallon as his new lawyer.
