Irmina was a noblewoman of the Germanic Cherusci tribe during the 1st century AD. She was the wife of Segestes and the mother of Thusnelda and Ansgar, and she stood loyally by her husband as he supported an alliance with the Roman Empire at all costs, even after the Romans crippled her young son Ansgar in 9 AD. Irmina went so far as to attempt to trick Ansgar into walking off of a cliff as a way to put him out of his misery, but Thusnelda rescued Ansgar and contemplated pushing her own mother off of the cliff before relenting.
