Irish Mob

The Irish Mob is an Irish-American organized crime group that has existed since the 19th century, making it the oldest organized crime group in the United States. The Irish Mob has appeared in most major US cities, including New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and New Orleans, and famous gangs include the North Side Gang of Chicago, the Winter Hill Gang of Boston, the Dead Rabbits and Gopher Gang of New York City, and the K&A Gang of Philadelphia. In America, the Irish Mob dominated organized crime from the 1840s until the 1910s, and it produced famous gangsters such as Dean O'Banion, Owney Madden, Red Hamilton, Whitey Bulger, and Danny Greene. During the 1920s and 1930s, the heyday of the Irish Mob came to an end, and Irish criminals realized that they could steal more if they were on the right side of the law, as opposed to being criminals; many entered machine politics and left behind gang life as the American Mafia took over New York City's crime.
