Biography[]
Irfan Noori was born on 14 March 1946 in Asira al-Qibliya, West Bank, Mandatory Palestine. Noori grew up in poverty due to Haganah Jewish militia forces confiscating his family's property during their attack on the village during the First Arab-Israeli War in 1948, and he harbored a hatred for Israel. He joined the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) militant group and was given command of the operation to hijack Lufthansa Flight 273 on 23 June 1973. Noori, Miqdam Awan, Azmi Eid, and Faisal Adel boarded the plane in Berlin on its flight to Tel Aviv, and Noori acted as the leader of the hijackers during the incident. The plane was diverted to Damascus, and it was kept on the runway, even after the lights were powered down at the terrorists' request. Noori held the passengers and crew hostage until Sayeret Matkal commandos stormed the plane shortly after midnight on 24 June 1973. He gave orders to not hurt the hostages, and he was killed while fighting with the commandos.
