The Iraqi Communist Party is a Marxist-Leninist communist party in Iraq that was founded on 31 March 1934. From the 1930s to the 1970s, the party was a major party in Iraq, taking part in the uprisings and the demonstrations of the 1940s and the 1950s before being nearly wiped out due to political repression under Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath Party government from 1968 to 2003. After the Gulf War of 1991, the Communist Party spoke out against the United Nations sanctions, but it gained some seats in the new Iraqi government after the 2003 invasion, forming the Alliance of Revolutionaries for Reform alongside the Sadrist Movement.
