Iraqi Air Force

The Iraqi Air Force is the air force of Iraq, formed on 22 April 1931. From 1931 to 1958, the Iraqis flew planes from the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force, but after the end of the Kingdom of Iraq in the 14 July Revolution in 1958 and Iraq's realignment towards the Soviet Union, Iraq began to use Soviet planes. After 1979, Iraq used planes from the Soviet Air Force and French Air Force, and the air force fought in the Iran-Iraq War before being defeated and limited after the Gulf War. In 2014, the air force had a strength of 5,000 men and 1,160 aircraft.
