Iobates the Stoic (died 424 BC) was the ruler of the Hephaistos Islands during the Peloponnesian War. Ruling from Lemnos, he sided with the Delian League during the war, and he was secretly a member of the Cult of Kosmos.

Biography[]

Calculating and mysterious, everywhere and nowhere, none were as feared as Iobates of Lemnos and the bloodthirsty mercenaries fighting in his name. Under his careful planning, these rogues became a force for terror and oppression across the lands, and as mercenaries knew no borders, he was able to attack where other soldiers simply could not. In 429 BC, he contacted the mercenary Chremon the Efficient and requested him to come to Lemnos to work for him, having admired his spotless work. However, the Cult of Kosmos' enemy Kassandra, a rival mercenary, killed Chremon in Kirrha and found Iobates' letter on his body, identifying Iobates as a Cultist.

In 424 BC, Kassandra traveled to Lemnos and infiltrated the Desecrated Sanctuary from which Iobates was based. She lured him into a temple as his guards patrolled the base, and she stabbed him dead, eliminating another Cultist leader.
