The Invasion of Marmari was the second phase of the Battle of Kos, occurring on 3 October 1943.
By mid-day on 3 October 1943, 1,200 German soldiers landed on the Aegean island of Kos, occupied by Italy since 1912. Dive-bombing by Junkers Ju 87s added to the difficulties of the Italian defense, and a German naval convoy of seven transports, seven landing craft, three destroyers, and numerous fishing boats landed German soldiers at Marmari and Tingachi in the north-central part of the island. German Brandenburger special forces and Wehrmacht soldiers from the 22nd Infantry Division landed at Marmari and pushed inland, supported by armor. Luftwaffe dive-bombers flattened Marmari, enabling the Germans to take the town after fighting block-by-block to clear it of Italians.
