The Inner Circle was a Russian ultranationalist and far-right terrorist group which was active between 2011 and 2017, with Vladimir Makarov leading it. The Inner Circle consisted of the most radical members of the Russian Ultranationalists, who advocated for the restoration of the Russian Empire, the conquest of Europe, and a return to pre-Soviet autocratic rule. The parliamentary faction of the Ultranationalists were pro-Soviet, causing friction between the radicals and the parliamentarians. Makarov's "Inner Circle" terrorists launched attacks against both the Ultranationalist government of Russia and the West, perceiving both to be major enemies. In 2016, the Inner Circle staged a coup in order to ensure that World War III would continue, kidnapping President Boris Vorshevsky. However, Vorshevsky was later rescued by the United States, and his restoration to power led to the end of the war. The Inner Circle was brought to an end with Makarov's death in Dubai in 2017.
