Inna Derusova

Inna Derusova (5 February 1970-26 February 2022) was a Ukrainian combat medic who, following her death in battle during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, became the first woman to posthumously receive the title of Hero of Ukraine. She first joined the Ukrainian Ground Forces in 2014, and she served as head of her battalion's medical service, as head of its medical unit, and as its medical instructor. When Russia invaded in 2022, Derusova had just returned from vacation, and, having been held up for two days in Okhtyrka, she saved more than 10 Ukrainian servicemen before being killed by Russian shelling on 26 February while caring for a soldier under fire. For her heroism and loyalty to the military oath, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded her the title of Hero of Ukraine on 30 March 2022.
