Ingrid Ragnvaldsdotter

Ingrid Ragnvaldsdotter (1105-1162) was Queen consort of Norway from 1134 to 1136 as the wife of King Harald Gille.

Biography[]

Ingrid Ragnvaldsdotter was born in 1105, a granddaughter of King Inge the Elder of Sweden. She first married Henrik Skadelar, a grandson of King Sweyn II of Denmark, and bore him Magnus II of Sweden. Her first husband died in battle at Fotevik in 1134, and she remarried to King Harald Gille of Norway, bearing him Inge I of Norway. She became one of her son's most important advisors, advising him to murder his half-brother Sigurd II of Norway. In 1161, her son was killed in battle during the Norwegian Civil War, and she died in exile in Denmark a year later.
