Inglewood is a neighborhood of South Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. The neighborhood was predominantly African-American in race, and it had a high crime rate during the 1990s, being notorious for gang violence, drug trafficking, and prostitution. The area consisted mostly of single-family houses, projects, a few warehouses, the Alhambra nightclub, and some stoers, with most of the area being lower-class, while the western parts were middle-class. In April 1992, the Grove Street Families gang retook the area from the rival Ballas gang, taking out the drug traffickers and cleaning up the area of drugs. In 2016, Inglewood had a population of 110,654 people, with 45.9% being Hispanic, 43.6% African-American, 5.2% white, 2.4% Asian, 1.6% multiracial, .8% other, .4% Native American, and .09% Pacific islander.
