Ine of Kent (born 850) was the West Saxon client ruler of Kent during the late 9th century.
Biography[]
Ine was born in Kent in 850 to a Christian Anglo-Saxon family, and he rose to be the West Saxon client ruler of Kent at some point in the 880s. Ine was a loyal vassal of King Alfred the Great, and, in 886 AD, he personally commanded a large fleet which destroyed the invading Nordmann Viking fleet under Bjarngrimr off the coast of Dover.
