The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is a social democratic political party in Indonesia, founded in 1996 as the result of a split in the Democratic Party of Indonesia. Megawati Sukarnoputri, the movement's founder, was the daughter of Indonesian founding father Sukarno, and she was removed from the Democratic Party in 1996 by the brutal dictator Suharto. In 1999, the party was legalized after Suharto resigned and restrictions on political parties were lifted, and the party incorporated elements of both liberalism and social democracy. In 2017, the party held 107/560 DPR seats.
