Indiana is a state in the Midwest region of the United States, bordering the Great Lakes. Indiana was created as a territory after the Northwest Territory was divided on 7 May 1800 by the US Congress, and on 11 December 1816 the state was admitted to the union as the 19th state. The state was the location of wars between the Americns and the Native Americans, with William Henry Harrison fighting against the natives in the Indiana Territory in the 1790s and early 1800s and driving the Indians out. Indiana's capital and largest city is Indianapolis, and the state had a population of 6,619,680 people in 2015.
