Ilus W. Davis

Ilus Winfield Davis (22 April 1917-4 September 1996) was the Democratic Mayor of Kansas City from 10 April 1963 to 10 April 1971, succeeding Harold Roe Bartle and preceding Charles Wheeler.

Biography[]

Ilus Winfield Davis was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1917, and he served in the US Army during World War II before practicing law. He served as Mayor from 1963 to 1971, overseeing the construction of Kansas City International Airport and the Truman Sports Complex, as well as the suppression of Black riots in 1968. He died in 1996.
