Illinois is a state in the Midwest region of the United States. The state is a microcosm of the whole country, with small industrial cities and agricultural productivity in northern and central Illinois, coal, timber, and petroleum in the south, and the largest population center in the state is the city of Chicago, with Springfield being the capital. In the 1810s, settlers from Kentucky began arriving in Illinois, which had legally become a part of the USA after the 1783 Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolutionary War. In 2015, the state had a population of 12,859,995 people.
