Ikeda Nagateru portrait

Ikeda Nagateru (born 1832) was daimyo of the pro-Shogunate Nagaoka Domain during Meiji Restoration-era Japan. During the Boshin War, Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu appointed Ikeda the commander of the pro-Shogunate cause's "vanguard" in recognition of the Nagaoka Domain's hegemony over the Chubu region of central Honshu, and in the winter of 1866, he led the remaining pro-Shogunate clans of Japan in declaring war on the pro-Imperial cause's own vanguard, the Choshu Domain. By the autumn of 1867, he and his comptroller Sanada Tadato assumed command of a massive army in Omi Province.
