The Ijaw were a West African people native to the Niger Delta in Nigeria. The Ijaw lived near sea trade routes, with many of them being migrant fishermen in camps as far west as Sierra Leone and as far east as Gabon. In 2011, the Ijaw world population was 14,000,000, and 98% were Christian, 1.3% animist, and .8% Muslim.
