Igor Valentinovich Korobov (3 August 1956-21 November 2018) was Director of the GRU from 2 February 2016 to 21 November 2018, succeeding Igor Sergun and preceding Igor Kostyukov.
Biography[]
Igor Korobov was born in Vyazma, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on 3 August 1956, and he served in the Soviet Air Force before working with the GRU military intelligence. He was served as head of the Strategic Intelligence Directorate before President Vladimir Putin appointed him as head of the GRU in February 2016 following Igor Sergun's death. He was behind the cyberattacks against the United States which coincided with the 2016 presidential election, but he officially visited the USA at the end of January 2018. He died after a long and serious illness in November 2018.
