Igor Konashenkov

Igor Konashenkov (15 May 1966-) was a Major-General of the Russian Army and the chief spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Biography[]

Igor Konashenkov was born on 15 May 1966 in Chisinau, Moldovan SSR, in the Soviet Union. He became the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and he was a Major-General in the Russian Army after 2013, having served as the press chief for the Russian Army and in other public relations posts before his appointment. Konashenkov was one of the main leaders of Russia's forces during the Syrian Civil War, and he was interviewed in a 60 Minutes documentary on 10 January 2016, in which he stated that 320 insurgents and 34 armored vehicles had been destroyed in the past 24 hours. Konashenkov also informed Bill Whittaker, the journalist, that the guided missile cruiser Moscow off the coast of Syria was patrolling the waters in the case of a Turkish Air Force attack, as it had anti-aircraft capabilities that could prevent another Russian plane from being shot down by Turkey.
