Ignazio Uberti (1989-) was Prime Minister of Italy from 2025 to 2027, succeeding Nicola Stefani and preceding Rosa Gallone.

Biography[]

Ignazio Uberti was born in Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy in 1989. He worked as a weatherman before entering politics with the progressive Five Star Movement. Uberti was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2009, and he was a rather undistinguished politician by the time that he was named M5S' candidate for Prime Minister in 2025 (incumbent M5S leader and Prime Minister Nicola Stefani was term-limited). Uberti was nonetheless elected Prime Minister in a vote of 14-9, defeating Italian Left leader Rosa Gallone.

Premiership[]

Uberti presided over a strong and growing economy and a happy country, inheriting Stefani's successes. Uberti continued his party's campaign of democratization by passing a law (13-4) which changed the electoral law so that prime ministers were directly-elected from the top two parties, destroying the corrupt "coalition" system which allowed for minor parties (and not the people) to be kingmakers and cheat the most popular party out of power. The Chamber also voted 22-1 to set elections at every 55 weeks, increasing the length of Prime Ministers' terms to end the revolving door of prime ministers. The Chamber then voted 12-5 to enact a road maintenance program and 13-6 to build a nuclear test site. In 2026, M5S won 47.78% of the vote and 12 seats, SI won 16.24% and 4 seats, FI won 13.11% and 3 seats, LN won 13.45% and 3 seats, and PD won 9.42% and 2 seats. In the ensuing premiership election, Uberti narrowly defeated Gallone with 51% of the vote to her 49%. Under Uberti, an economic boom occurred, and the Chamber passed a tax on speculation by a vote of 13-8. While M5S launched a media offensive ahead of the early 2027 elections, when the elections were held in March 2027, M5S was reduced to 42.68% of the vote and 10 seats, while SI won 17.41% and 4 seats, FI won 14.23% and 4 seats, LN won 14.14% and 3 seats, and PD won 11.55% and 3 seats. Uberti was prevented from running again by term limits, and Marcello Ruvolli was chosen as the M5S prime ministerial candidate, running against Italian Left leader Rosa Gallone. In the ensuing election, Gallone defeated the unknown Ruvolli 62.1% to 37.9%.
