Ibrahim bin Shakaran

Ibrahim bin Shakaran (died 4 April 2014) was the founder of Harakat Sham al-Islam and a former member of al-Qaeda.

Biography[]

Ibrahim bin Shakaran was born in Morocco, and he joined al-Qaeda during the Iraq War. He was a recruiter for the group in Iraq before being captured by the United States and held at Guantanamo Bay. Ibrahim bin Shakaran was among 606 people to be released from the facility, and he decided to return to terrorism during the Syrian Civil War, forming the Salafi jihadist Harakat Sham al-Islam group. He was killed in action in April 2014 during an offensive in Latakia Governorate alongside Abu Safiya al-Masri, the military chief of the group.
