Ibrahim Khan Lodi

Ibrahim Khan Lodi (1480-21 April 1526) was the last Sultan of the Delhi Sultanate from 1517 to 21 April 1526, succeeding Sikandar Khan Lodi. He was defeated and killed by the Timurid prince Babur at the Battle of Panipat in 1526, giving way to the emergence of the Mughal Empire.

Biography[]

Ibrahim Khan Lodi was born in Delhi, India in 1480, the son of Sultan Sikandar Khan Lodi. He inherited his father's throne in 1517 and became the last ruler of the Afghan Lodi dynasty; he faced a number of rebellions early in his reign, and he also alienated the Delhian elite by replacing old and senior commanders with younger ones who were loyal to him. The Afghan nobility invited the Timurid prince Babur to invade India in 1519, and, in 1526, Babur's Mughal army met Lodi's army at the First Battle of Panipat. Lodi was killed during the defeat of his army, and the Delhi Sultanate was replaced by the Mughal Empire and the Sur Empire.
