Biography[]

Iakovos Lebzleter was born in Rovne, Russian Empire (Rivne, Ukraine) to a poor Jewish family, and he worked at a cardboard factory. Lebzelter would join the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and serve on the front against the German Empire, facing discrimination due to his ethnicity and his religion. In 1917, Lebzelter assisted in the Russian Revolution against the czarist regime, and he became the head of his cardboard factory's labor union.
