Iago ab Idwal (920-979) was Prince of Gwynedd from 950 to 979, succeeding Hywel Dda and preceding Hywel ap Ieuaf.
Biography[]
Iago ab Idwal was the son of King Idwal the Bald, but his uncle Hywel Dda seized control of Gwynedd after his father's death in battle in 942. In 950, following the death of Hywel Dda, Iago and his brother Ieuaf ab Idwal regained control of the kingdom at the Battle of Carno, driving out their cousins. The brothers raided Dyfed in 952 and the Conwy Valley in 954, but the brothers quarrelled for years. Iago died in 979, and his nephew Hywel ap Ieuaf succeeded him.
