Iacopo IV Appiani (1459-10 April 1510) was the Lord of Piombino from 1474 to 1510, succeeding Iacopo III of Piombino and preceding Iacopo V of Piombino.
Biography[]
Born to the House of Appiani, the rulers of Piombino, Appiano became the lord of Piombino in 1474. He served under the Kingdom of Naples as a condotierro from 1479 to 1483, and later served under the House of Este from 1483 to 1485, the Republic of Siena from 1495 to 1498, and Florence from 1498 to 1501. Appiano served France and Aragon during the Italian Wars, and when he lost his lands in 1501, he fought the Papal States until Pope Alexander VI's death in 1503, when he became the lord of Piombino once more. In 1509, he was made a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, and received Leonardo Da Vinci at his court. He died in 1510.
