I. Codreanu was a Major-General of the Romanian Army, and he was given command of the Romanian I Corps during World War II. Codreanu led the corps during the Battle of Romania in 1944, and he launched many failed attacks against the Soviet Union's advancing Red Army as they invaded Romania.
