Flag of Hyderabad

Hyderabad State was an Indian princely state located in the center of the country, with Hyderabad serving as its capital. The state existed from 1724 to 1948, and it was ruled by nizams who were initially Mughal governors, but became independent rulers. In 1778, British Army soldiers and a resident were established in Hyderabad, which was put under British protection in 1798. After the Partition of India in 1948, Hyderabad refused to accept Indian Army occupation, while carrying over its agreements with the British Raj to the new Indian government. However, the rise of the militant razakars under Osman Ali Khan led to the Indian army occupying the state in September 1948. The Nizam was forced to sign an instrument of accession, and Hyderabad joined India.
