Hussein Kamel al-Majid (17 September 1954 - 23 February 1996) was the Minister of Military Industries of Ba'athist Iraq from 1987 to 1995. The son-in-law of Saddam Hussein, he later deserted to Jordan, and he was murdered by Saddam in 1996 with his brother Saddam Kamel.
Biography[]
Hussein Kamel al-Majid was born in 1954, and he rose through the ranks of the Iraqi Republican Guard. In 1987, he was promoted to Minister of Military Industries of Ba'athist Iraq under the dictator Saddam Hussein, and he married his daughter Raghad Hussein. However, on 7 August 1995 the two of them defected to Jordan alongside al-Majid's brother Saddam Kamel and his wife Rana Saddam, but his information on the secret weapons programs were of limited value and he was not given the full amount of riches that the CIA and MI6 promised him. In February 1996 he was convinced to return to Iraq with his brother and their wives after Saddam promised them clemency, but they were ordered to divorce their wives and were denounced as traitors. The two of them were killed in a 13-hour firefight with Iraqi forces after resisting arrest.
