Huntingdonshire is a historic county of England, with Huntingdon serving as its capital. In 1154, King Henry II of England made all of Huntingdonshire a royal forest, but its arable soil and good drainage led to its transformation into an agricultural region by the 1700s. Huntingdonshire became an administrative county in 1889, but it was merged into Cambridgeshire on 1 April 1974, becoming a district of the greater county. In 2018, Huntingdonshire had 177,352 residents, with 94.6% being white, 1.8% Asian, 1.3% black, and 1.4% mixed.
