Humphrey Morrey (1650-1716) was Mayor of Philadelphia from 1691 to 1701, preceding Edward Shippen I.
Biography[]
Humphrey Morrey was born in England in 1650, and he first came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1683 and worked as a merchant. In 1685, he became a justice of the peace, and he served in the provincial assembly in 1687 and 1690. In 1691, he was appointed Mayor of Philadelphia by William Penn, serving for ten years. He died in 1716.
