Humberto Gallas

Humberto Gallas (1769-) was a Spanish politician who was the leading figure of the junta formed in June 1812, ruling Spain as "Emperador".

Biography[]

Gallas was born in Seville in the Province of Sevilla in 1769. He was either of Dutch, Polish, or Eastern German descent. In 1808 Gallas entered politics as Spain was invaded by France during the Napoleonic Wars, bringing on the Peninsular War of 1808-1814. In June 1812 Gallas became the leader of the junta (multiple leaders ruling a government) formed in Seville as Emperador, equating to the position of President.
