Hugh de Paduinan

Hugh de Paduinan (1140-1189) was a Scottish Templar and nobleman who was the progenitor of Clan Houston.

Biography[]

Hugh de Paduinan was born in Scotland in 1140 to a family of Norman nobles, and he married a Scottish lord's daughter and came to own land in Kilpeter, Renfrewshire. He later joined the Templar Order and became Lord of Balatonos in the Holy Land, and he fought at the Battle of Hattin in 1187 and died in 1189. His descendants assumed the surname "Houston" in his honor.
