Hugh McClennis (1890-1939) was a British Army major who served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on the Western Front of World War I. Born in Stirling, Scotland, the son of Harold McClennis, he was drafted into the British military during the Great War and fought in Flanders. After the war, he worked in the coal mining industry with his father, but the Great Slump took a toll on the family's fortunes. McClennis failed to win the Scottish Unionist Party's nomination for Parliament at the 1935 general election, and he died of lung cancer in 1939. He left behind five children, including Garry McClennis.
