Hugh II of Saint Omer

Hugh II of Saint Omer (1150-1204) was Prince of Galilee from 1187 to 1204, succeeding Raymond III of Tripoli and preceding Raoul of Saint Omer.

Biography[]

Hugh of Saint Omer was born in 1150, the son of Walter of Saint Omer and Eschiva of Bures, the brother of Raoul of Saint Omer, and the stepson of Raymond III of Tripoli. He was captured at the 1179 Battle of Marj Ayyun, but he was later ransomed by his mother, and he later led his stepfather's army at the 1182 Battle of Belvoir Castle and defeated Saladin's Ayyubid Egyptian army. He succeeded to his stepfather's title after his death in 1187, although Galilee was more of a titular holding due to the Battle of Hattin. He went on to marry a daughter of Balian of Ibelin, but their marriage was childless, and he died in 1204.
