The House of Wittelsbach was a Bavarian German royal family that ruled Bavaria from 1180 to 1918, the Palatinate from 1214 to 1803 and 1816 to 1918, the Margraviate of Brandenburg from 1323 to 1373, Holland, Hainaut, and Zeeland from 1345 to 1432, Cologne from 1583 to 1761, Julich and Berg from 1614 to 1806, Sweden from 1441 to 1448 and 1654 to 1720, and Bremen-Verden from 1654 to 1719. The family also landed rulers of the Holy Roman Empire in 1328-1347 and 1742-1745, a King of the Romans from 1400 to 1410, a King of Hungary from 1305 to 1309, a King of Denmark and Norway from 1440 to 1447, and King of Greece from 1832 to 1862. The family was deposed on 7 November 1918 at the end of World War I, but it still survives in Europe.
