The House of Normandy was a Norman family of Norse descent that ruled Normandy from 911 to 1153, ruling England from 1066 to 1153. The dynasty was named for the region of Normandy, which the viking Rollo and his progeny ruled after Charles the Simple granted him land in the lower Seine valley in what is now northern France. The House of Normandy died out with Matilda of England in 1153, and the House of Blois and then the Plantagenet dynasty would take over England.
