The House of Galbaio was one of the five patrician families of the Republic of Venice.
History[]

The Galbaio family was a dynasty of Catholic Italians from the city of Venice, Italy. They originated with Doge Maurizio of Venice, who seized power in 764 from Doge Domenico of Venice, whom he blinded. The Galbaio family ruled Venice until Domenico's death in 770, and the blind Doge Teodato of Venice returned to power after having been previously overthrown in 755. Doge Giovanni of Venice was from the House of Galbaio, and he organized the deaths of Teodato and Doge Encagilio of Venice, becoming the new doge after their deaths. The Galbaio family ruled Venice for decades to come, bringing prosperity to the merchant republic.
The House had only 5 remembered members and died out in 840 with Cristoforo Galbaio. It was succeeded by House Tribuno.
