House of Dandolo

The House of Dandolo was a powerful patrician family of the Republic of Venice that produced four doges: Enrico Dandolo, Giovanni Dandolo, Francesco Dandolo, and Andrea Dandolo.

History[]

The House of Dandolo came to the forefront of Venetian politics on 27 June 771 under Patrician Arnolfo of Dandolo, replacing the House of Monferrato. The family first ruled over the Republic of Venice in 1192 when Enrico Dandolo rose to be the Doge, and the family would have three more doges, with Andrea Dandolo dying in 1354, ending the Dandolo line of doges.
