House of Burgundy

The House of Burgundy was a cadet branch of the House of Capet that was founded in 1032 by Duke Robert I of Burgundy. The family ruled the Duchy of Burgundy from 1032 to 1361, and the main line of the dynasty ended with the death of Philip I of Burgundy. Control of the duchy passed to the House of Valois-Burgundy after Jean II of France gave the duchy to one of his sons. The Portuguese branch of the family went extinct in 1383.
