
Hossein Salami (1960-) was a Major-General of the Iranian IRGC who served as commander-in-chief of the IRGC from 21 April 2019, succeeding Mohammad Ali Jafari.
Biography[]
Hossein Salami was born in Golpayegan, Iran in 1960, and he served in the IRGC during the Iran-Iraq War. He served as commander of the IRGC University of Command and Staff from 1992 to 1997, of the IRGC Joint Staff from 1997 to 2005, of the IRGC Air Force from 2005 to 2009, deputy commander of the IRGC from 2009 to 2019, and commander-in-chief of the IRGC from 2019. In 2019, he stated that he was proud that Washington DC had listed the IRGC as a terrorist group.
