
Hosokawa Yoshikuni (1835-1876) was the 11th daimyo of the Kumamoto Domain of Kyushu from 1860 to 1871, succeeding Hosokawa Narimori and preceding Hosokawa Morihisa. He sided with Emperor Komei during the Boshin War.
Biography[]
Hosokawa Yoshikuni was born to the mighty Hosokawa clan, one of the clans that was loyal to the Toyotomi during the Sengoku Period. He succeeded Hosokawa Narimori as the ruler of the Kumamoto Domain of Higo Province (on the island of Kyushu) in 1860 at the age of 25, and he was a major ally of the Satsuma Domain. Yoshikuni assisted the Satsuma during the Boshin War, during which their clans were loyal to the Imperial Faction. He died in 1871, and Hosokawa Morihisa was the last daimyo of the Hosokawa and Kumamoto Domain.
