Hosokawa

The Hosokawa was a feudal Japanese samurai clan from Tango Province in northeastern Chugoku on the western half of the island of Honshu. During the Sekigahara Campaign, they were aligned with the Tokugawa.

History[]

The Hosokawa clan had much to boast. They descended from the Emperor Seiwa and Minamoto, and were well-rooted in the Ashikaga Province as well as the Oda and Toyotomi clan. In 1591 the Hosokawa were on friendlier terms with the Tokugawa than the Toyotomi, and were in an awkward position with Toyotomi loyalists surrounding their province. If the Hosokawa could break out, the Hosokawa could continue their prominence from Emperor Seiwa's days.
