Horst Bucher () was a general of the SS of Nazi Germany.
Biography[]
Horst Bucher was the son of a city government bureaucrat from Mainz, Germany, and Bucher joined the Hitler Youth at one point. He reported his father for anti-Nazi Party sentiments, marking him for greatness in Nazi Germany. Strong and rigid, he won a competetive scholarship to Heidelberg University, where he was a championship fencer, having scars on each cheek. In one duel, Bucher was scarred by Colonel Gunter von Reinhardt, who became a famous general. Bucher became an honors student in military history and reported his history professor for proving too understanding of the Bolshevik movement (and the fact that he dated back to the Weimar Republic days). His progress through the SS ranks was steady, and Heinrich Himmler decided to promote him for his Aryan looks and build. He served distinction under Otto Skorzeny, and Bucher was sent by Himmler to tighten Nazi control of the central radio facility following the 20 July 1944 Operation Valkyrie bomb plot. Bucher was Himmler's right-hand man as commander of the midnight black-uniformed SS troops in the aftermath of the bomb plot.
